Hi, I’m Bhaskar Raman, cofounder of Seaside Editorial. Over the past two decades, I have helped scholars, lawyers, journalists, and activists from more than 25 countries across five continents craft books, reports, and articles that are clear, engaging, and effective.

I have had the pleasure of working with Bhaskar since 2021, and I have known him to be a skilled and talented editor and proofreader. He has edited or proofread several academic monographs for the Harvard University Asia Center. Our books, which are mostly academic monographs in the fields of modern and premodern Asian literature, history, and religion, are often complex and may include translations of primary texts from Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Vietnamese. Bhaskar has a good instinct for judging the quality of translations. He is an excellent copyeditor who has greatly improved the readability of the books he has edited, and our authors have consistently praised his careful work and eye for detail. He’s not only very skilled and well trained at the mechanics of editing – such as fixing grammar and punctuation and enforcing a consistent style -- but he’s also able to untangle difficult passages and ask the right questions that will help authors better articulate their arguments. He is incredibly thorough in checking notes and references. He even has a working knowledge of Sanskrit (among other languages), which is truly helpful when dealing with premodern Buddhist texts. He’s always punctual, responsive, and dependable, and his erudition and love of reading and of learning – especially in the humanities –- is evident in his editing work.

We had the pleasure of working with Bhaskar when he took on his role with us as a freelance production editor.
